About Lamar and Shirley Hunt
Lamar and Shirley Hunt have been a ministry team for over 51 years. They met in a Camp Meeting in Lakeland, Florida (Lamar’s home town) and now live in Candler, Florida, near Shirley’s home town of Ocala. They were married September 2, 1958.
A soloist in her own right, Shirley has teamed with Lamar in music ministry in tours in Germany and Panama; in New York City and San Francisco; in three tours in Georgia, and tours in Virginia, Missouri, and Texas. In all of their assignments music has been an integral part of their ministry.
Lamar served over 30 years as an Army Chaplain, including combat in Vietnam. His ordaining denominations were first the Assemblies of God and now the United Methodist Church. Both denominations have been major influences in Lamar’s life and ministry, and he loves and values both of them. Lamar began his current pastoral ministry in July, 2006 as co-pastor of the Community Congregational Church, UCC, in Marion Oaks, a few miles from their home. Lamar and Shirley still conduct revival meetings.
Lamar’s books are Hello God! A Daily Call to Faith and Worship and Touching the Hand of Jesus. He has also written an Easter and a Christmas Cantata, plus dozens of Gospel, Country and Pop songs. The Hunts released their music CD, Lamar and Shirley Sing, in November, 2008.
