Lamar and Shirley celebrated 50 years of marriage on September 7, 2008.
They have 3 children, Alan Lamar Hunt, retired from the Navy, living in Florida, Mark David Hunt, a helicopter pilot in the Army, lives with his family in Enterprise, AL and Lisa G. Keating. Lisa lives with her family in Columbia, SC; is music director for her church, and teaches handicapped children. The Hunts also have five grandchildren.
After becoming bored in retirement Lamar accepted a call back into the pastorate. He is ordained and a member of the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Lamar is also in dual status with the
United Church of Christ and serves as Co-pastor of the Community Church in Marion Oaks, near Ocala, Florida. The church is located at
In addition to pastoral duties Lamar writes books and music. His Christmas Cantata, The Jesus Star, was performed at the church on December 13, 2009. He is finishing an Easter Cantata, The Passion of Jesus, and is working on a book of sermons on CD, Beauty for Ashses, which will include 100 complete sermons.
