Lamar and Shirley live in Candler, near Ocala, Florida. Lamar is a retired US Army Chaplain with thirty years active duty, including combat in Vietnam. His ordaining denominations were first the Assemblies of God and now the United Methodist Church. Both have been major influences in his ministry, and he loves and values both.


Lamar was born in Lakeland, Florida, and Shirley was born in Ocala, Florida. Lamar says he loves to spend his time writing, singing, and preaching. "My wife, Shirley, and I conduct musical programs and an occasional revival meeting. I am currently co-pastor of the Community Congregational Church, UCC, in Marion Oaks, Florida, also near Ocala. We have been richly blessed with family, friends, and ministry."
